Why can’t I make or receive calls or texts?

We've written a handy checklist that's worth going through if calls and texts aren't working. Often there’s an easy fix.

Follow these steps:

  1. Try turning your phone off and on again. This should reset your network settings.

  2. Check you’ve got a signal and there are no network outages in your area (here). Make sure you're not in 'Do Not Disturb' mode or haven't accidentally enabled flight mode.

  3. Test out different phone numbers – in case you're trying to call or text an invalid number.

  4. Check your account details. If you can't make calls or send texts but can receive them, it could be that you don't have an active plan.

  5. If you're abroad, you could have an active roaming bar on your account. International calls are generally not allowed.

  6. Try disabling or uninstalling third-party calling or text apps like TrueCaller or Textra SMS. Sometimes these can interfere with your phone’s services.

  7. If you’ve recently ported your number, it is possible your port hasn't completed yet.
